The residence is located in the Historic Boulevard Oaks District. We designed a contemporary home that is comfortable with the eclectic styles of the neighborhood. The house is ‘L’ shaped and consists of a main house with detached garage/guest suite. A two-story outdoor ‘bridge’ connects the structures and allows prevailing breezes into the courtyard. We utilized pocketing glass doors to enhance the relationship between the indoors and outdoors. Materials were chosen for their ability to invoke the warmth and visual vocabulary of a cottage but with a contemporary application including painted brick, stucco, redwood siding, and double-hung windows.
