Tanglewood, Houston, Texas
A Tudor-style home in Houston's Tanglewood neighborhood, designed for a family of six. The intention was to not be overly elaborate, but rather playful and refined, and to blend in with the traditional fabric of the neighborhood. At 10,000 square feet, the home maintains intimate moments through an inglenook, breakfast room, and sitting room, while the English character is expressed through brick, cast stone, a slate roof, copper elements, large chimneys, and steep roof pitches. Steel doors and lead glass windows introduce a soft, modern feel. Designed for an active family, the outdoor spaces were a large focus. Organized storage, poolside cooking and seating areas, oversized copper gas lanterns suspend from a double-height rear terrace, and a porte-cochere connects to the garden through a breezeway completed by a custom circular gate.
